Fiscal year
Also called: Financial year
The 12-month period a company uses for its accounts, which doesn't always match the calendar year.
Most European companies report on the calendar year, but not all: some run from April to March or October to September. Ryanair's year, for instance, ends in March; Siemens' ends in September.
When comparing two companies, check that the periods match. The breakdowns state the period whenever it isn't the calendar year.
General explanation for education only, not investment advice. Company-specific definitions can differ; each breakdown uses the company’s own.
