Order backlog

Also called: Order book

Orders a company has already received but not yet delivered or billed.

For companies that build large or custom products, such as aircraft, chip machines, turbines or made-to-order cars, the backlog shows how much future work is already signed.

A long backlog gives visibility, but it is not revenue yet: orders can be delayed, changed or cancelled, and production capacity decides how fast it turns into sales.

General explanation for education only, not investment advice. Company-specific definitions can differ; each breakdown uses the company’s own.
